At Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS), we embrace innovation and the evolving landscape of technology in education, recognizing the educational benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) when used effectively and responsibly.
AI may be used as an educational resource when deemed appropriate by school personnel, but it is strictly prohibited for assessments or for completing work that is passed off as original content, as this constitutes plagiarism. Proper citation and acknowledgment of AI-generated content are required to maintain academic integrity.
Additionally, the use of AI must protect personally identifiable information (PII), ensuring no PII is shared with AI technologies. Students must use AI ethically, ensuring it does not infringe on others’ rights or spread misinformation. They should verify AI-generated content using SIFT research skills (Stop, Investigate the Source, Find Better Coverage & Trace to the Original Context) and understand that AI is not a substitute for critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
To maintain a fair and focused learning environment, the use of AI-enabled smart devices, such as augmented reality glasses, AI-powered earbuds, or any wearable technology that can covertly access, transmit, or generate information is strictly prohibited during the school day, unless explicitly approved by school personnel for instructional purposes. This includes smart glasses with prescription lenses, which are not permitted if they contain AI or communication capabilities. These devices may compromise academic integrity, bypass classroom monitoring, and disrupt the educational process.
Students are only permitted to use AI tools that can be monitored and supervised by school staff. Unauthorized use of such devices will result in disciplinary action. Violating these guidelines will result in disciplinary action. These guidelines will be regularly reviewed and updated to align with technological advancements and the needs of our learners.
